Digital workshop: Sexual diversity in professional life

On Nov. 17, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m., FAU Career Services will host a digital workshop on sexual diversity in the workplace.

Sexual diversity does not end at the boundaries of the private sphere. But what relevance does it have, especially in professional life? What challenges should I expect? How do I structure my everyday working life so that I feel comfortable and am able to perform? What goals are worth striving for in my professional life? These are just a few of the questions that will be discussed in the webinar. The focus will be on discussing your own experiences, wishes and fears, and learning from each other.

News from Stuve

As announced in the last Stuve newsletter, we had a Jour Fixe with the Vice President for People Prof. Andreas Hirsch on October 24. Among other things, we had a lively exchange on the topic of menstrual articles in unit toilets. We are happy to announce that the topic has finally gained momentum at the university and that a pilot phase will be planned soon.

We are also excited to announce that the Stuve has been awarded the FAU Medal of Merit for its excellent, critical and constructive cooperation over the past years. Since this honor is personal and cannot be awarded to institutions, Lara Savannah Ebbinghaus and Michael Ruppert accepted it on behalf of the Stuve as senators and members of the Covid crisis team of the last term. Previously, this high honor had been awarded exclusively to professors.

The big event of the last weeks was the Dies academicus, the 279th birthday of our FAU. There, as every year, the Stuve gave a speech, this time represented by Büşra Başol and Lara Ebbinghaus. In the speech we appreciated the good cooperation with different groups at FAU, but also made a lot of important criticisms and pointed out grievances.

Since the climate crisis and also the current energy crisis illustrate how urgently a mobility turnaround is needed, we have spoken out in favor of a 29 € per month ticket (as a student version of the 49 € ticket) and are also co-signers of a letter that went to our state government. In addition, we submitted an initiative proposal at the last meeting of the State Asten Conference (our Bavarian state student representation), which was passed unanimously.

Recently, there has been a vacancy in the Speaker’s Council and we are looking for you! That is, if you are interested in helping to shape the student representation and the university. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us without obligation at stuve-sprat@fau.de. You can apply for this position via this email address as well as at the next Student Council meeting.

Development of the FAU: Two ministers answer your questions

On November 10, 2022, 12:15 – 13:45 in the lecture hall C1 in the New Chemical Center, Nikolaus-Fiebiger-Str.10, 91058 Erlangen, UG 1 there will be a discussion with the Bavarian Minister of Science Markus Blume and Minister of the Interior Joachim Herrmann.

For us students, good teaching and learning spaces and also the condition of our campus are a very important component of our studies and also the Well Being during our studies.

For a long time, FAU was known as a rather dilapidated university, investments were postponed and delayed. In recent years, some projects have started to move. But is that enough? What about sustainable transformation? And by when will we have the infrastructure we need?

The panel is a great opportunity to follow up with your questions and, of course, learn about future building development at our FAU. For more info, feel free to check out: https://www.fau.de/termine/diskussionsrunde-entwicklung-der-fau-mit-markus-blume-und-joachim-herrmann/

Zoom chat: studying with disability

Studying can present a wide range of challenges for people with physical and mental disabilities. In a relaxed atmosphere, the Zoom chat on 18 November at 4 p.m. will provide a digital space for networking and exchanging tips and tricks about studying with disabilities. The chat takes place regularly on every 2nd Friday. The link to the Zoom chat is available on the website of the Office for Gender and Diversity (https://www.gender-und-diversity.fau.de/diversity/inklusion-an-der-fau/diversity-day-26-mai-2020-inklusion-an-der-fau/).

Demonstration: Stop patriarchal violence!

Patriarchal violence is a brutal and everyday reality: every third day a man murders his (ex-) partner (so-called femicide). On 25.11, the Trans Day of Remembrance is celebrated annually, on which all victims of transphobic violence are commemorated worldwide. Over 95% of women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people (WLINTA for short) have experienced sexual harassment. Patriarchal violence limits and threatens the lives of WLINTA on a daily basis: let’s take to the streets together against this on the day against violence against women and queers! Let’s be loud together!

The demonstration will start on the 25th of November at 5:30 pm at Beşiktaş-Platz in Erlangen and will move through the city centre. Immediately afterwards, we would like to invite you to the Zentrum Wiesengrund for Vefa (Vegan Food for All), drinks and concert and lots of talks and networking.
