Helpers for the renovation of a refugee integration center

You would like to help Ukrainian refugees settle in and integrate? You are interested in international contacts and like to get to know other cultures? You would like to explore a new place yourself?

Then our YRIC project is just right for you!

Together with other young adults from Poland, Hungary and France you will renovate a house in Rabka-Zdrój near Krakow. After the renovation, the house will be used as a meeting place between Ukrainian refugees and locals to promote cultural exchange, plan joint activities and much more.

Who are we looking for?

You are between 18 and 30 years old
You have time between 28.08.23-03.10.23
You are willing to help with the renovation between 30 and 35 hours a week.
You don’t need to have any previous experience, but are open to learning new things and doing physical work. Artistic contributions are also welcome!
You are an open-minded person and have a desire to interact with people from different nations.
Basic knowledge of English is an advantage

What do you get in return?

Food and accommodation will be provided
You get a small pocket money
Travel expenses will be covered up to a certain rate (the amount depends on the distance)
and the most important: You can contribute to the integration of refugees and make international contacts yourself, get to know other cultures and exchange ideas with different people.

Helpers needed for Long Night of Science on 21.10.23

For the Long Night of Science on 21.10.23 we are looking for helpers (m/f/d) in Erlangen / Nuremberg, who can support at the entrances.

Your job?
You will control tickets at the entrance, sell tickets or help out where needed on the evening. This is your chance to support the science communication of FAU.

What do I need to know?
– You will earn 12 € / hour + a fixed rate of 20 € (for the use of you private phone, travel expenses for briefings and event). The payment is on fee basis.
– you need to participate in one of the three briefing dates.
– you must be able to speak german well and be over 18.

News from the Stuve

After the university elections, we are slowly heading for the summer slump, but we are currently dealing with several major issues.

Constituent meeting of the Student Council

The university elections are already over and the planning for the next term of office continues directly. The university-wide committees are appointed at the constituent meeting of the Student Council. This will take place on 21.07.2023 from 14:00 in the Senate Hall in the Kollegienhaus. An overview of all offices that will be elected can be found here, or within the next few days on our Insta. The public is excluded from the internal discussions and the ballots, but you can still come by and introduce yourself if you want to run for office. If it is not possible for you to come by, you can also send your application by e-mail to stuve-konvent@fau.de.

Round table discussion with students VP-EOn 05.07., the annual round table discussion of students with the Vice President for Teaching (VP-E) Bärbel Kopp took place. Among other things, the further procedure in the debate on examination tests was discussed. Mandatory registration for failed exams seems to be considered obsolete by all groups involved and will almost certainly be abolished with our further efforts. The discussion on the abolition of trial counting is much tougher. After last month’s extended Uni-Lust meeting, at which various status groups were able to exchange their opinions, there is now a catalogue of measures and improvements with suggestions on the topic. These include, for example, the complete abolition of trial counting, extra trials for certain exams, but also the complete abolition of the basic and orientation exams.

The second major topic dealt with was the problem of the large workload of courses, theses and project theses at the Faculty of Engineering, especially at the Department of Computer Science. Here, the high number of admissions, especially of the English-language master’s programs, ensures a high number of supervision, which the department is less and less able to fill. It is currently planned to better regulate Master’s admissions, which should reduce the number of students again.

University group support

As already mentioned in the last mail, a working group of the student council is currently working on a revision of the “Position Paper on the Support of Student HSGs“, the first amendment proposal will be discussed at the next meeting of the Student Convention.
