Get a 9-euro ticket for Symphoniker meet ABBA Forever!

Mamma Mia, Super Trouper and Dancing Queen. Who doesn’t know them? The super hits of the legendary Swedish cult band ABBA, named after the first letters of the first names of its four members Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid. They formed in 1972 and two years later they won the Grand Prix d’ Eurovision de la Chanson, now known as the Eurovision Song Contest, with Waterloo. They went on to compose one hit song after another.

The Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra is reviving this incredible success story and dedicating a big show to ABBA on November 11th – with four top voices and arrangements in a big symphonic sound, styled by cross-over professional Thomas Dorsch, who also conducts himself. Look forward to a great evening with bell-bottom alarm and the immortal ABBA songs.

Vocals: Kira Wolf, Kai Podack, Marco Matias, Yvette Keijzers

You can be there live on Saturday for just 9 euros! Get your ticket here now!

News from the Stuve

The new semester has just begun, but there is already a lot going on in the Stuve.
In the first week of lectures with many introductory events, the Stuve was also involved in various events. For example, we had a booth at the freshers welcome in the Heinrich-Lades-Halle and were part of the bike tours that took place in cooperation with the ADFC on October 15 and 20.
On Oct. 26, we held the first regular Convention meeting of this term, where we discussed topics such as the conflict in the Middle East, a press release on the coalition agreement, and making newsletters about prayer services at the beginning of the semester unsubscribable were discussed.
In addition, a Bavarian State Student Council meeting also took place in Erlangen this week. As it was the first meeting of this term, there was an introduction for new delegates on Saturday. At the main meeting on Sunday, we welcomed representatives from 25 universities from all over Bavaria to Erlangen.
Another big event the Stuve was present at last month was the Dies Academicus. Besides a speech, the Stuve also contributed a networking table.
We are also in the final stages of preparing for the Student General Assembly, which will be convened for the first time in a long time. We look forward to seeing some of you and discussing motions. You can find the exact dates in the “Events” section.

University competition in the Year of Science 2024 – Freedom

For the Science Year 2024 proclaimed by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD) is once again inviting entries for a university competition on science communication, in which the German Rectors’ Conference is participating as a partner, as in previous years. Students, doctoral candidates and young researchers from all disciplines are invited to submit creative and interactive communication ideas on the topic of “freedom” (see attached slides). We are looking for proposals that bring citizens into conversation with researchers.

Freedoms often have to be fought for, defended, or renegotiated. In the year of the 75th anniversary of the German Basic Law and 35 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, a wide variety of dimensions of “freedom” can be the focus of submissions for the university competition: for example, in the context of inclusion and accessibility, democracy education, artistic freedom, climate protest and the freedom of future generations, dealing with artificial intelligence, etc.

The 12 best proposals will be rewarded with 10,000 euros each to implement the ideas and with workshops and training on science communication as well as admission to the alumni network of the university competition. Please find enclosed the call for proposals with the request to publicize it in your university in an appropriate way and to support students, PhD students and young researchers interested in applying. The application period ends on November 30, 2023.
All information on the call for applications and the competition can be found at www.hochschulwettbewerb.net/2024 WiD will also be offering consultation sessions to all interested parties via Zoom on November 1 and 20.
