Dear students,

The new semester has begun and with it the time of introductions, first-year parties and the stress of registrations on the new platform campo. We hope that your exam period went well and that campo didn't cause any issues with exam registrations. In this newsletter, you will find more detailed information on a pressing issue with campo, which we advise you to check out to avoid unnecessary failed attempts.

But it is not only the semester that is changing. New things are also constantly happening in the world that keep our students busy and worried. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the catastrophic situation in Iran and we are doing our best to do justice to the situation by providing relief at FAU for affected students. If you need to talk about specific problems, you can of course contact us via our suggestion box at any time.

A new semester always means saying goodbye to old topics and tasks and starting with new ones. This is also the case for us in the Sprat. Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to Büşra, Christian and Andy from the Sprat. You can find their farewells at the bottom of the newsletter.

We hope you can use the freedom in the new semester to exchange and network with your fellow students and professors. We wish you a good start into the semester!

Kind regards
Ann-Sophie, Lars and Michael

Retrospective of last term

Farewell and review texts of the Spratis of the last term.
Andy
For a long time now, I have been wandering through the jungle of university administration and the grueling desert of university service portals. In the process, I have fought against regulations, intransigent professors/administrators, and unintuitive user interfaces. After my many years of service in faculty- and university-wide missions, this year I had the honor to be at the forefront of these forces as a Spratiat!

I have experienced, seen, and learned a lot during this time, and have also had a lot of fun being a part of this team. But of course, it was also exhausting, and I am getting old and tired. So I will retire from the front line and next year I will only be involved in regional conflicts in the area of the infamous TechFuckler tribe.

But who knows, if the university still blesses me with a long remaining study and I feel like the big conflicts again, I might consider a comeback ;)
Büşra
No other year has felt as short and at the same time as long to me as the last 12 months. We have started so many projects, solved so many problems, and answered so many emails during this term that you would think it had been three years. At the same time, the time has been far too short. We would have liked to implement so many things - but we also have our limits, especially in addition to our studies and work.

My highlights of the term were the reorganization of the Stuve secretariat, for which I processed room requests for the Stuve in the triple digits, the progress on the period products, which we are currently still fighting for, the coordination of the university elections, and the efforts for the 365€ ticket, which made it to the Erlangen City Council.

Thanks to everyone for the great hours together, and good luck with all the battles the Stuve still has ahead! It was an honor to represent you and make the university a little bit better :)
Christian
So now you have to summarize a whole year's work and commitment in just a few sentences. Of course, this forces us to take another look at the past year in the rearview mirror. It was an extremely demanding term of office during which I found myself in several positions that I would not necessarily have expected at the beginning.

In particular, I would like to thank all the great people I have met during my involvement and together we have overcome major problems and disputes. Now, for the time being, I say goodbye to the Speaker's Council. I wish my successors staying power and steadfastness. They will need both to continue working on the issues that we have initiated this year and those that we have already taken over from our predecessors.

Take care and thank you for the fish.
Lara
Dear Friends of the Sun,

Once again the academic year and thus the term 21/22 is over! It was an absolute pleasure for me to be involved in the Convention, the Speaker's Council, and the Senate. There has been a lot going on... . Pandemic, war, and energy crisis were big challenges - but together we were able to grow. I am looking forward to the next term and your trust in me to continue in these positions. Have confidence and allow yourselves a little optimism in the strenuous present. You are all awesome

Hi guys,

Since I joined Sprat two years ago, there have been a lot of crises: The Corona crisis, a new "university innovation law", the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine, and now also the energy crisis and the protests in Iran.

Nevertheless, we at FAU were able to shape things together, contribute ideas, network more intensively with UL, advocate for better teaching, and also help write the development plan. I would like to thank everyone who contributed constructively - it was great to work with you! I am looking forward to next year!

News from the Stuve
The new semester has begun and with it, our committees have slowly come out of their summer slump. With numerous events for first-year students, but also general events for all students, life is coming back to the university and thus, of course, also to the Stuve. On Monday, for example, there was already the big freshman orientation, where we were able to introduce you to the Stuve with a few committees and university groups. Read more...
Error cancelling exam registration on Campo
If you have tried to deregister from a (first) exam in the last few months, you should now check if this really happened or if you got a failed attempt entered instead. Until recently, when you deregistered from an exam at campo, the “Cancel registration” button of the privacy policy canceled the deregistration attempt instead of confirming the deregistration. If you tried to deregister from the exam via this button according to the exam regulations, check if you were actually deregistered or if a failed attempt was entered for you. Read more...
Press release against the DAAD cuts
It is with great dismay and concern that the FAU Student Council views the massive cuts planned by the German government to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) The consequences of the cuts would affect several thousand students and young academics, for example through the loss of around 6,000 scholarships at the DAAD alone. FAU is also suffering greatly Read more...
FAU Award for Teaching and Award for good Teaching
Teaching is alongside researching one of the big tasks of a university, even if it is sometimes not recognized as much.

To value teaching, the FAU awards one junior scientist per faculty a prize for teaching. Additionally, the Bavarian Ministry of Science, Research and Art awards two lecturers at the FAU a prize for good teaching.

We as Students can make suggestions of lecturers to our deans of studies, who we think taught well and innovatively so that they have a greater chance of being recognized for their effort. Read more...
