Important information in advance: The exam registration is open until 11:59 p.m. today!

December 11th, 2022

Dear students,

In the current exam registration phase, many questions and problems with the new campo platform have already arisen. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you about an error during the deregistration attempts from the last semester and at the same time offer you some How-Tos/FAQs for the registration phase running until midnight.

The compilation of this information has come about through a lot of trial and error and exchange with other students and is therefore unfortunately somewhat delayed and probably not complete; therefore, we welcome your tips developed during this time and further feedback for overviews in future registration phases (see below for contact).

Contents of this mail:

  • Information about the error in the exam deregistration of SuSe22 on campo
  • Frequently asked questions and answers about the exam registration
  • Overview of relevant contact points depending on the problem
  • Collection of important links during the exam registration
  • Survey on the status of your exam registrations

Best regards
Büşra Başol, Sarah Kriesch, and Lars Longerich

Q&A about the exam area of campo

Exam deregistration error in campo

During the transition of a large platform like campo, errors can occur that are only noticed during active use. For example, after the introduction of the new campo platform last semester we became aware of an error that we directly contacted the university about, which was then corrected relatively quickly. However, the university declined to send us an information mail from the Examination Office on this topic. However, in the last circular for the registration phase, the Examination Office warned that, especially because of the system change, the achievement overview should be checked independently and students should take care of its correctness themselves. Therefore, we would like to explain this problem to you in more detail, since we feel that a reference to the students' own responsibility alone - without any explanation of the system error - is not a sufficient reaction on the part of the university and, given the scope of the possible consequences, more information is necessary.
What was the error and what impact could it have?

When trying to deregister from an exam, a click on Cancel registration on the page for accepting the information and declaration of acknowledgement did not actually cancel the registration as expected, but on the contrary, canceled the deregistration process. Due to the many initial (and partly ongoing) obstacles and problems with the platform, this error was then not perceived as such by many of those affected, but rather partly accepted as a display error or one of many bugs of the site. Thus, some failed attempts may have crept in for students from the last semester, which, depending on the examination regulations, could cause subsequent errors and unnoticed final failure of a module due to compulsory registrations.

How do I know if the error is affecting me?

If you were registered for an exam in the last summer semester, it is generally a good idea to check your performance on campo [1]. Especially for exams that you wanted to deregister for until October, you should take a closer look at the failed attempts, so that more mistakes can't creep in due to the compulsory registration. Of course, you should also consider your respective Degree Programmes [3], as in some cases the deregistration might not have been possible due to the regulations regarding deregistration deadlines and make-up exams.

Caution: During the transfer of data into the new system, other errors may have happened that affect your performance, or even generally one or the other mishap creep in. So always keep an eye on your achievement overview and regularly check the completeness and correctness of your data.

What can I do if I am affected by the error?

As already announced by the Examination Office in the circular email for the current registration phase, we have to take care of the correctness of the data on campo on our own. Please contact your responsible person at the Examination Office [2] in time to correct errors and to avoid further failures due to compulsory registration. Please put Sprat via stuve-sprat@fau.de and Thomas Purr via thomas.purr@fau.de in the CC, so that we get an overview of the number of cases and can help you faster in case of problems.

Everything important at a glance

When should I contact whom if I have a problem?

  • Error with the examination deregistration in the Summer Semester 22:

    → Examination Office [2] with CC: Sprat [A] & Thomas Purr [E]

  • Error with your achievements in general:

    → Examination Office [2]

  • Examination Office does not respond to a mail for some time:

→ Again (via @fau.de mail) Examination Office [2] if desired with CC: Sprat [A]

  • Complaints about communication with the Examination Office:

    → Suggestion-Box of the Stuve [5]

  • Registration of an exam not possible in campo:

    → Lecturer (via @fau.de mail)

  • Lecturer cannot register an exam manually:

    → Examination Office [2]

  • Problems with lecturers:

    → FSI [7] or see flowchart [6]

  • Technical questions about campo:

Tip: In general, it is better to send one mail too many than one mail too few to the Examination Office during the registration phase, so that your registration attempt is still considered to have arrived on time. However, always try to contact the person in charge [2] first and only use the general address of the Examination Office in case of emergency.
