Dear students,

The summer semester 2023 has already begun with bright sunshine and pleasant spring temperatures. As we do every semester, we welcome all new students to FAU and look forward to seeing you again at the university.

In this newsletter, you will find an overview of the current activities of the student representation as well as numerous attractive events around the beginning of the semester. We wish you a successful start of lectures and a continuation of the good weather.

The lecture-free period has also made itself felt in the student representation, which is why we have been busy with networking as well as new and longer-term projects over the last month.The lecture-free period has also made itself felt in the student representation, which is why we have been busy with networking as well as new and longer-term projects over the last month. In the past weeks, the AK Semesterticket, with the support of some interested students, the Studierendenwerk, and the VGN, has presented this semester's ticket options at various universities in the region. You will find similar information booths at our university next week. Just drop by on either April 18th at WiSo, on April 19th at Langemarckplatz, or on April 20th at Roter Platz.

The Speaker’s Council was invited to the city hall by the bureau for civic participation and volunteering to talk about civic participation and student volunteering. What do you like about Erlangen as a city? Which changes would you like see? Feel free to send us an email to stuve-stadt@fau.de.

Regarding Campo, the Speaker’s Council had a conversation with Jürgen Kleinöder, the CIO of FAU, in which the current problems, improvements, and further development of the platform were discussed. Read more...

Introduction of the university groups of the TechFak

A new semester is coming up and for some of you it's your first semester at FAU. But no matter what semester you're in, a great way to get to know other students and have cool experiences is through university groups! We offer everything a student needs to survive, from a wide range of activities, opportunities and chances to a great atmosphere and amazing people. That's why we advise you: just drop by our introduction event at the Roter Platz on the 19th and 20th of April between 10am and 4pm or go directly to a meeting of the university group of your choice. No to shortening opening hours and closing branch libraries!

Protest against shorter opening hours and closures of branch libraries

Since April 3rd, the opening hours in more than 20 branch libraries in Erlangen's city centre and on the southern campus have been shortened. Two were even completely closed. Student assistants are particularly affected by the job cuts. But it also affects us all, because libraries are not just storage places for books, but also essential work and study areas, as well as meeting places for students. With shorter opening hours, the possibilities of scientific work and the successful preparation of examinations are massively restricted. Even without cuts, the learning places are already limited and often overcrowded. Read more...

Proving Grounds Nürnberg 2023 - Free League of Legends tournament

Dear students,
the university group E-Sports Erlangen is organizing again this year a free League of Legends tournament where you can compete with your fellow students. The Proving Grounds 2023 will take place this year on the weekend of April 29th & 30th. Renate Wittern Sterzel Prize of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg 2023

Since 2005, FAU's Renate Wittern Sterzel Prize is awarded annually for an especially successful equality project at the University.

The prize money is 10,000 euros and can be awarded to members (including students) and/or organizational units of FAU. Is serves to continue existing or to develop new activities in equality and diversity at FAU. Suggestions for prize winners can be made by all FAU members, including students. Mission Educational Justice - looking for active students for summer semester 2023

Would you like to get involved in social projects alongside your studies? The university group Studenten bilden Schüler e.V. is looking for new members! We want to get together before the start of the semester to get the summer off to a strong start.

With us you can make a valuable contribution to more educational equity in our society! Our non-profit association places students as volunteer tutors with students from low-income families who cannot afford paid tutoring. With just 1-2 hours of tutoring per week you can make a huge difference! Please note that you need good language skills in German to participate. Read more...

SEARCH for: (voluntary) workers (m/f/d) for events for young people

Hey there, we are currently looking for (voluntary) workers (m/f/d) for our events for children and youths (we can often pay expense allowance). Our organization – the Kreisjugendring Erlangen-Höchstadt – advocates for the interests of children and youths in Erlangen-Höchstadt and their right for participation. One part of our program are camps on different topics during the school holidays. If you work there, we can often offer you an expense allowance. FAU “Intercultural Competence” Certificate for Students

Our seminars for FAU’s “Intercultural Competence” certificate are geared toward dedicated and critical students like you who are interested in enhancing their skills and expanding their knowledge. We offer a wide range of courses, including “Latin America ¿Adónde vas? Crisis, Globalization and Interculturality”. Our seminars provide an interactive learning environment where participants can improve their skills through discussion, group work and case studies. In addition, we offer a certificate that participants can receive after successfully attending our seminars. Read more...

Future Talk “Bike, Bahn, Beamen: How do we shape future mobility?”

On April 18th from 7pm – 8:30pm the next Future Talk on the topic "Bike, Bahn, Beamen: How do we shape future mobility?" will take place at the Zukunftsmuseum Nuremberg. Guests will be Dr. Weert Canzler and Manuel Robledo as well as Katja Diehl, the well-known author and mobility activist.

Admission is free, tickets for the free reservation are available in the ticket store of the Deutsches Museum Nuremberg. In addition, the event will be livestreamed via Zoom. Read more...

Promotional Award for Visitor Safety

The DEB Federal Innovation Award is endowed with 3,500 euros. Students from all universities in Germany can submit bachelor’s or master’s theses, reports on practical semesters, term papers, and projects that demonstrate sustainable, innovative and future-oriented approaches to solutions for visitor safety in Germany.

The first place winner receives 2,000 euros, second place 1,000 euros, and third place 500 euros. Students can send their work to the DEB by mail until July 31st, 2023. Read more...
