May 10th, 2023

Dear students,

After an eventful start to the semester, we are happy to offer you a little check-in in all the hustle and bustle. Whether you're already chasing after lectures or still full (of food) from yesterday's Laufgelage, you surely deserve a little break. So let's pause a bit in today's newsletter, maybe sit down in the fresh air for a while, and let some peace come in between reviewing and giving a view.

Relaxation for you is already being planned on our part. The summer parties for this semester are, as always, numerous and widely distributed, so we have already created an overview calendar for you in this newsletter. If you are longing for a different kind of relaxation, you can take a little time off with the Deutschland-Ticket since May 1st. But don't forget to use your additional ticket upgrades for this beforehand.

Apart from that, you can look forward to great events by and for students as well as the approaching university elections. All candidates have submitted their candidacies to the Schloss and can now prepare for election advertising and the university election compass of the Stuve. So keep your eyes open in the coming weeks to get informed about the elections and cast your vote for a stronger student representation!

Kind regards
Lasvini and Büşra
for the Student Representation

PS. Feel free to reach out via mail at stuve-sprat@fau.de! The Speaker's Council regularly meets online (Zoom) or in the House of Student Representatives (Turnstraße 7) on Monday nights. The next meeting takes place on Monday, 15.05. starting at around 7 pm online via Zoom. Please let us know if you want to come by so we can let you know if there are any changes. We look forward to and warmly welcome new faces!

PPS. A global pandemic, war, and an energy crisis hallmark the contemporary era. Please let us know how we can support you via our "Suggestion-Box".

News from the Stuve

The Stuve is currently working intensively on several issues. These include, for example, the AK Prüfungsversuche (Working Group on Examination Attempts), which is lobbying the university so that we are no longer so severely restricted when it comes to repeating exams. Using the example of Bielefeld (which allows an infinite number of attempts and even the improvement of passed exams), we have explained in a presentation for the Referat L that the extension of exam attempts will probably not negatively influence the average standard period of study, and what advantages it will bring.

Another topic we are concerned with is the problem around the income limit of mini-jobs in combination with the increased minimum wage. Because of about 2€, which exceeds the 520€ limit at 10 hours per week, many students get problems with social security contributions. Some workarounds seem to have been found already. For example, some students report agreements with their health insurer to declare the surplus as advertising costs to avoid problems. If you are affected, a request to your health insurance company may also help you. Read more...

Deutschland-Ticket upgrade for the Additional Ticket

If you have bought an Additional Ticket for this semester, it is now time to upgrade to the Deutschland-Ticket. If you haven't done so yet, you will find the code to redeem it in an email from the VAG, which you should have received in the last few weeks depending on the date of purchase. In the following you will find some additional information from the AK Semesterticket about what you have to pay attention to.

The most important thing is that the additional ticket expires at the end of May, and therefore the upgrade is essential for further use. However, you can still use it until then, as long as you only want to travel within the VGN. You can still redeem the upgrade at any time until the end of September, but before that, you won't be able to drive with it. If you have any questions or problems beyond the following, please contact the AK Semesterticket at hauptorga@semesterticket.org. Read more...

Survey on the effectiveness of BAföG funding for studies (German only)

We at the Max Planck Institute in Bonn would like to invite you to participate in our survey on the topic of "financing your studies with a focus on BAföG". Every student can participate, no matter if they receive BAföG or not. The survey will take about 15 minutes and 100 times 25€ will be raffled among the participants. Your participation is anonymous and the data will only be used for research purposes.
