Dear fellow students,

we're happy to admit it just in time for the holiday of love: we burn for Stuve News! If you share our passion for news from the student representation and beyond, you're in perfect hands with us.

In today's issue, we have some news on the topic of mobility for you, as well as a big report on the construction discussion with the chancellor of our university. You can also have a look at the collection of dates relating to the Feminist Fight Day on March 8, which will grow over the next few weeks as more and more dates are announced.

As things are otherwise rather quiet in the calendars due to the upcoming lecture-free period, we would simply like to take this opportunity to send you lots of encouragement for any upcoming exam preparation and wish you lots of success and fun with your other commitments and plans during this time. Don't let the love in the air be soured by exam frustration! ❤️

Best regards
Christian and Büşra

Stuve-News

Everything from committees & working groups of the Stuve to FSIs & university groups
News from the Stuve

With last year's amendment to the Student Council's Rules of Procedure, the Stuve's working groups were also granted new rights and obligations. This also means that working groups must report spokespersons to the Student Council. You can find detailed information on the changes in the Student Council's Rules of Procedure. We hope that this will both improve the structure of the work in the individual groups and give us a better overview of which working groups are engaging how actively. So keep your eyes open - there could be more meetings in the near future. The first reports have already been received by the Student Council and will be processed at the next meeting on 28.02.

Since 01.01.24, new billing regulations have been in force in Bavaria for private individuals who apply for reimbursement from the university (cost applications via Stuve, FSVs etc.). Now your date of birth and your tax ID are also required. According to our information, however, this will have no further impact on your payments. So that you don't have to write the tax ID on the applications every time, you can enter it directly in the IdM portal in the payment information section. This function has also been implemented for bank details so that the whole sequence of IBAN, BIC and co. does not strain your wrists every time. At the moment, however, the query does not yet work reliably, which is why most offices will probably contact you by e-mail to obtain the required information.

Kick-off meeting: Working Group for Public Relations

This newsletter is written, among others, by the PR working group of the Student Council, which deals with the Stuve's public relations work. This includes, among other things, the promotion of many events, the management of social media accounts and the organization of cool merch, such as our legendary pens and stickers. We now want to meet more often as a working group to make the work of the student representatives more widely known. On 29.02. at 6 pm a first meeting will take place in Turnstraße 7 in the seminar room on the 1st floor. Everyone who is interested in the topic and perhaps even wants to contribute an idea or two of their own is cordially invited to attend. You are also welcome to contact us in advance by email if you have any further questions about the meeting or our work.

29€ ticket stays!

Student mobility remains one of our most important projects. Just a few weeks ago, the price of the general Deutschlandticket was confirmed for the coming year: The special conference of transport ministers has estimated no price increase for 2024 (source). The Bavarian discount ticket will then in all probability also maintain its introductory price of €29 as long as the general Germany ticket does not increase in price. Negotiations with the VGN will continue to be handled by the AK Semesterticket on the student side; you can get the latest information via their Instagram account. If the topic has aroused your interest, please feel free to contact the working group, because any support is welcome!

Development of mobility in the Erlangen area

Even if we have escaped price changes to the Deutschlandticket for now, we are facing major changes in terms of infrastructure. There will be a referendum on the Stadt-Umland-Bahn (StUB) this summer - probably at the same time as the European elections on June 9, 2024 - in which the implementation of what is currently Germany's largest streetcar project will be put to the vote. The student representation supports the project, as do FAU and many other organizations. If you would like to find out more in advance, we can recommend the website of the association "Wir pro StUB".

In the last referendum on the StUB in 2016, every person who had already registered their primary residence in Erlangen by the cut-off date two months before the vote was eligible to vote in it. We expect the same to be true for the upcoming vote. So if you want to influence this groundbreaking decision, make sure you check your place of residence in time. If you have any further interest in getting involved in this topic, please contact the AK Semesterticket.

There has also been further progress in local public transport, as the majority of buses in the city center have been free to use since January 1 - so it's time to get on and ride! You can find out exactly which bus stops this applies to and further information in FAQ form on the website of the city of Erlangen.

Events for March 8th - Feminist Fight Day

In Erlangen and Nuremberg, there are numerous events every year around March 8, ranging from demonstrations and information events to art and culture. Information on this year's events is currently being published bit by bit, but is not yet complete. Therefore, this time we have prepared a small collection of (free) Erlangen events for you below, which will grow on our website over the next few weeks. The most important information about the big main demonstration in Nuremberg can of course be found right here:

Term talk on construction topics

Once a semester, the Faculty Student Councils and the Speakers' Council meet with the FAU Chancellor's Office. Here we learn about the strategic development and planning of the FAU as well as the progress of current construction projects, and can directly address problems concerning the construction situation. We want to give you a brief overview here in the newsletter; you can find the full transcript on our website.

New construction of student residences

Around 200 apartments are to be added to the existing halls of residence on the south site. In addition, a larger student hall of residence is to be built on the "old Siemens campus"; initial plans for the new building on the Siemens Campus will probably be submitted to the city council this year.

Status of the anatomy building and lecture hall capacities at Med

As the project plan is still being drafted, construction of the anatomy building is due to start in 2027; completion is expected in 2030/31. The loss of the large lecture hall in Henkestraße currently requires the use of video broadcasting to smaller rooms, which does not always work. There will be internal discussions about whether the capacities in Ulmenweg can be used more for the pre-clinic, but for the time being the next possible relief is the construction of the New Lecture Hall Center (completion presumably in 2030).

Stadt-Umland-Bahn

The introduction of the StUB is essential for the planned expansion of the southern area. FAU is therefore supporting the project publicly. The question for us is how we can successfully communicate information about the citizens' decision to FAU students and staff.

Nuremberg Teacher Training Campus - new developer?

The construction of the new university campus has been delayed following the bankruptcy of the Gerchgroup and will not be completed in 2026 as planned. Talks about the continuation of the project are currently ongoing with the Free State of Bavaria and the Alpha Group which is still responsible for the construction site, as the insolvent company is prepared to hand over the project. In addition, all didactic specialists are to move to their respective departments in Erlangen in the long term.

Master planning south campus

The Departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering are to be relocated to the acquired Siemens campus in the long term. This will create an axis of three locations (Siemens campus - Techfak - Natfak) on the south campus, which is to be connected by the planned city-country railroad and a shuttle bus line. Internally, the campus is to become car-free in the long term (with several parking garages on the edge of the southern area). The planned Computer Centre is to be completed by the end of the decade and the waste heat from the building will be fed into the heating network for the entire faculty. Parking garages will be half covered with green plants and half with solar panels on the outer wall according to the new sustainability concept.
