Everything from committees & working groups of the Stuve to FSIs & university groups

Editors: Büşra Başol, Christian Peppel

A number of changes are currently taking place within the student representation. After many successful years of working together, we are saying goodbye to the previous Vice President for Education, Bärbel Kopp. The Department of Teaching and Studies is already in contact with her successor Andrea Bréard to continue our work together. We are also saying goodbye to Gwyn, who stepped down from his position in the Speakers' Council at the beginning of the summer semester.

After a long time, the Public Relations Department has returned to the large-scale project of merch and is working on revamping the design of the Stuve newsletter. The Student Representation's infrastructure is also currently undergoing some changes, as the Computer Department has implemented improvements to the Terminklicks and the Stuve pad in a large infrastructure meeting.

In order to recognize the structural differences of the Stuve at FAU, the new structural reform working group is currently working on networking with the student representatives at the faculty level and Stuves from other universities in Bavaria. The working group for mobility continues to focus on the citizens' vote on the Stadt-Umland-Bahn.

Of course, the new language bans at Bavarian universities were also a big topic. You can see our reaction to this in the use of the generic feminine in the German version of this email, as well as in the more detailed article below.

Language ban at Bavarian universities

Three and a half months after Minister President Söder announced it, a ban on gender gaps, gender asterisks, and so on was decided on April 1 for correspondence at, among others, universities. We have already spoken out in favor of the use of inclusive language and writing in the past (for example here) and are firmly opposed to this new regulation.

Together with other student representatives in Bavaria, we have already expressed our criticism of the State Ministry's measures in the following press release. You can view the complete PM here.

As our own small reaction, we decided at the last Student Council meeting that we will use the generic feminine in our correspondence from now on. Of course, all other gender identities are also addressed.

New spokespersons in the student representation

The election of spokespersons for the Stuve's departments and working groups was already decided at the beginning of the current election period and is intended to better structure the work of the Stuve. The departments appoint a spokesperson from among their members, who must then be confirmed by a vote in the Student Council.

You can find an up-to-date overview of all spokespersons confirmed by the Student Council on our website.

Stuve tip: Study room navigator & computer room overview at FAU

Workspaces at the university can become scarce, especially during exam periods. The University Library provides students with a study room navigator to make it easier to find the perfect place to study. By selecting various criteria such as location and equipment, the navigator allows you to filter through the 62 possible workspaces currently available, which are widely distributed across the branches of the library.  To the study room navigator...

The RRZE also has a list of all CIP pools at the university that are accessible to all students. Broken down by rough location, this list is particularly helpful for all those who do not have CIP pools at their own departments or who may not meet existing access requirements for rooms in their vicinity.  To the computer room overview...

But no matter what semester you're in, a great way to get to know other students and have cool experiences is through university groups! We offer everything a student needs to survive, from a wide range of activities, opportunities and chances to a great atmosphere and amazing people. That's why we advise you: just drop by our introduction event at the Roter Platz on 17th of April between 10 am and 3 pm or go directly to a meeting of the university group of your choice. We are always happy to welcome new people!

Farewell from the Speakers' Council

Gwyn Rhys Thomas

Hello everyone,

The semester is starting again. I hope you had a relaxing semester break and can get back to studying as soon as possible. A lot will change for me in the coming semester, which is why I unfortunately have to resign from my position in the Sprat. During my time in the Sprat, I was able to get to know a handful of great, committed, and kind-hearted fellow people and support them with my work. For me, it's goodbye for now. Whoever is reading this is welcome to think about taking the plunge into the heart of the Stuve and realizing their own commitment. You will definitely get to know lovely people in your time and get a first-hand look at the Stuve's work :)

See you later alligator, your Gwyn

Vote on the StUB on June 9

As you have probably already noticed, a citizens' vote on the Stadt-Umland-Bahn (StUB) will also be held on June 9 to coincide with the European elections. This concerns a streetcar extension from Nuremberg through Erlangen city center and to Herzogenaurach. The StUB is to connect the three cities and thus also the FAU sites and large companies in the region every 10 minutes. With the help of the StUB, traffic in Erlangen is to become more sustainable by shifting car traffic to public transport and reducing CO2 emissions. All information about the StUB can be found on the website.
