News from the Stuve

10/2024

Everything from committees & working groups of the Stuve to FSIs & university groups

Editors: Christian Peppel, Büşra Başol

Dear fellow students,

Whether you have just arrived at FAU this semester or are returning from the semester break, we will provide you with the latest information from your student council.

At the beginning of the winter semester, there are all kinds of events where you can get to know fellow students from a wide range of interest groups. You can find out here (definitely not exclusively) which first semester events we can be found at, why you should definitely not miss them and where you can party after the first events. Even old friends can discover new things there.

As representatives of all students at FAU, we hold discussions on many different topics with those responsible at and outside the university. In the Stuve Newsletter, we can regularly keep you up to date on these various topics. In today's edition, you will therefore find reports on construction planning at the university, the topic of People and the future of Stuve's finances.

In this mail you will also find a statement from the Stuve on the upcoming price increase for the discounted Deutschland-Ticket for students, as well as a number of contributions from university groups in which you can participate.

We hope you have fun reading and wish you a good start to the winter semester!

Price Hikes For The Deutschland-Ticket

The conference of transport ministers of the federal states announced on 23 September 2024 that the price of the Deutschlandticket will rise from the current €49 to €58 from January 2025. The increase will also affect the Bayern-Ticket, which will cost €38 in future.

The price increase of 31% exceeds the recent Bafög increase of 5% many times over. The AK Mobility Working Group of the Munich student representatives and the AK Semesterticket Erlangen-Nuremberg Working Group (of which our Student Union is also a member) reject this price increase and are campaigning for a more student-friendly solution. Both alone and together with other student representatives in Bavaria, we are approaching politicians and the media in order to keep mobility attractive and affordable for students.

We are calling on politicians to ensure that the increase is not passed on to students in full or in the middle of the semester. The ticket will only be successful if long-term planning is possible. We are therefore also calling for a mechanism to be introduced for future price increases to ensure that this long-term planning is possible.

We will be able to report on further developments once we have spoken to all those involved. Talks are planned with both the VGN and the Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Hermann, in the coming weeks.

If you are interested in this topic and would like to know more, please contact the Stuve Department of Mobility (stuve-mobilitaet@fau.de).

Report on the building issues discussion

Every semester, the FSVs and the University Chancellor Christian Zens discuss the current state of FAU's renovations and can clarify problems at their own locations. This semester, the following topics were discussed, among others:

Visible work started on the Raspberry Palace this August.
Demolition work on the Henkestraße lecture hall center will probably begin next year.

A parking lot Henkestraße-Ecke-Gebhartstraße is to serve as an alternative area for the renovation of the Anatomie, the necessary laboratory wing is to be built on the Kussmaulcampus.

At our suggestion, a packing station is to be built at the Südblick cafeteria.
The building authority is currently looking into the construction of additional covered bicycle racks on the south campus.

The old Inorganic Chemistry building will not be demolished until 2031, after the new Chemikum has been completed.
Unfortunately, the construction of new solar systems is failing due to the insufficiently allocated construction budget, the financing will only pay off after approx. 8 years.
Several years ago, the FAU suggested the renaming of “Erwin Rommel Straße” to the city of Erlangen; the current status will be reviewed here.

Report on the Status group meeting with the Vice President of People

In the Jour Fixe with VP-People, our student representatives talk together with FAU stakeholders on all topics relating to equality, diversity and internationalization. In addition to the elected representatives students from the Stuve departments are also represented. The last meeting covered the following topics, among others:

The Diversity Day is to be held annually from now on, with the next one focusing on inclusion.

The new position of Discrimination Officer is to be created as a low-threshold contact person at FAU.

The lack of specific awareness teams at FAU events was addressed, but as no clear solution has yet been found, the topic will be discussed again in the next talks, which will also clarify whether those involved in the student body want to or should take on a role in this.

Expiring residual funds and future financing of the Stuve

Due to new guidelines from the Bavarian ministries, it will no longer be possible for the individual bodies of the Stuve to carry over remaining budget funds into the next financial year. All remaining funds will expire at the end of the next year. In addition, the restructuring means that the annual funds available to the student representatives will be further reduced. A future adjustment of the funds to the actual requirements was offered to us in discussions, but talks on this will only take place after a few years.

First-year cycling tour

Erlangen is a cycling city - almost all routes in the city can be covered within 15 minutes by bike.

The student representatives and the cycling club ADFC show you important and beautiful places in Erlangen.

afterwards we will go to a café

Please bring along: a roadworthy bicycle, water bottle, good mood
