News from the Stuve

11/2025

Everything from committees & working groups of the Stuve to FSIs & university groups

Editors: Vincent Hennecke, Dennis Krause

Dear fellow students,

We hope you've had a good start to the semester and are enjoying the run-up to Christmas, perhaps with a well-deserved break at one of the Christmas markets opening soon on November 24 in Erlangen and November 28 in Nuremberg. In this first newsletter of the semester, we will inform you about what is happening in the student council (Stuve) and at FAU as a whole, as well as what exciting events are coming up at the university.

For the first time in a while, the student council is taking over the editorial team. If you have any questions about the newsletter, please feel free to contact us.

Who we are: The Student Representation (Stuve) at FAU

We are the elected representative body for all students at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg.

The Stuve is made up of various levels: at your faculty, there are Student Council Initiatives (FSIs) at the degree program level and, at a higher level, the elected Faculty Student Council (FSV) for your entire faculty. Across the university, the Stuve consists of the Student Council, the Speakers' Council (Sprat), and various working groups and departments. The FSVs and the Student Council are elected by you annually in the university elections. The Council is comparable to a parliament.

The Speakers' Council (Sprat) - our university-wide executive committee

The Speakers' Council (Sprat) is the executive body of the student convention and takes care of the day-to-day business of the Stuve. Ideally, it consists of two student senators, two convention chairpersons, and four additional members. The Sprat is your central point of contact for university-wide questions and concerns. It also represents the entire student body externally.

Its tasks include:
- Processing requests for rooms and financial support
- Recognition of university groups
- Budget planning for the Stuve
- Supporting students with problems
- And above all: regular dialogue with the university management. The Sprat ensures that student interests are taken into account in all university decisions.

The Sprat meets weekly on Monday 7 pm at Turnstraße 7. You are cordially invited to come by, but please send us a quick email in advance!

Studierendenwerk: Survey Canteens

Dear students of the FAU, Your satisfaction is particularly dear to us. In order to continuously optimise our offer for you, it is important for us to find out what you think about our offers and services. We therefore invite you to take part in the online survey to evaluate our canteens as well as to formulate wishes regarding improvements. Even if you do not (currently) use the gastronomic facilities of the Studierendenwerk, you can make a valuable contribution to their improvement through your participation.

The survey takes about 10 minutes and is available at the following link until 30.11.2025.

As a thank you for your participation, we will raffle five canteen vouchers worth 25 € each among all participating students. Your information will be treated as strictly confidential and the data will be evaluated anonymously. It is not possible to draw any conclusions about your person – even if you participate in the competition. Participation is voluntary.

If you have any questions about the survey, you can of course contact us info@werkswelt.de or the survey team at Conomic info@conomic.de, the market research institute with whom we are working with for this survey, at any time. Thank you very much for your support!

Die FAU Zerfällt (FAU Falls Apart)

When the freezing temperatures drive us indoors, you won't be the only ones to notice that many of the buildings are in poor condition. From broken doors and leaky roofs to failing heating systems and dilapidated laboratories, the state of the buildings at FAU is one of the issues being addressed by the Stuve because it affects every faculty and every student. That's why we gave an interview to the Bayerischer Rundfunk back in the summer and to the Deutschlandfunk, as part of a larger campaign alongside other magazine articles. Strong initiatives have now been established at both the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities to raise awareness of the issue, and they met for the first time last week at a plenary meeting at both locations. Now, last Monday, a group has been formed across the entire FAU.

At the Faculty of Science, but also at the Faculty of Philosophy, committed initiatives have now been formed to draw attention to the problems and actively campaign for improvements. Last week, they met for the first time at plenary meetings at both locations to coordinate their next steps. Now, on Monday, November 10, a group has formed for the first time across the entire FAU under the slogan “FAU is falling apart,” which aims to network the various initiatives and further increase pressure at the political level.

Introduction of the new Speakers' Council

New term of office, new spokesperson! Who represents the interests of the student body at FAU during this term of office? Some of them told us who they are and what moves them.
Jonathan Birk (he/him) - Chairperson of the Student Council

Hello, my name is Jonathan Birk.I am 20 years old and am in my fifth semester of law school, specializing in tax law. Together with Dennis Krause, I have the honor of chairing the Student Council for the 2025–2026 term . I am also deputy chair of the Juso university group in Erlangen-Nuremberg.

It is particularly important to me to keep university politics alive and to attract new, committed students to this important field. It is a privilege that we students have the opportunity to make our voices heard, represent our interests, and actively help shape the future of our university. I want to help ensure that we stand up for our values, goals, and concerns together—with openness, motivation, and the determination to make a difference.

Dennis Krause (he/him) - Vice Chairperson of the Student Council

Hey! I'm Dennis and I study politics and economics at PhilFak. October marked not only the start of my fifth semester, but also my first term in office at Sprat and Konvent, which I chair together with Jona. At the same time, I am involved in FSI Politik and BayStuRa, which brings together universities in Bavaria to discuss important issues.

In recent weeks, the construction situation has quickly become a priority. I am therefore involved in projects such as “PhilFak zerfällt” (PhilFak is falling apart) to create a platform for larger campaigns with “FAU zerfällt” (FAU is falling apart). As further cuts are looming at the state level, jeopardizing teaching and study quality, a well-organized student body is becoming increasingly important. This work is my main focus.

Vincent Hennecke (he/him) - Student Senator

Hi, I'm Vincent and I'm studying for a master's degree in cell and molecular biology. My goal is to make FAU a place where studying, working, and living in everyday university life is truly enjoyable again. We are all familiar with the current situation: dilapidated buildings, closed lecture halls, and a tight budget that causes uncertainty and frustration.

That's why I'm involved in the university-wide Student Council, the Senate, and the Student Convention, as well as at the faculty level in the Faculty of Natural Sciences. My goal is to ensure that the voice of students is loud and heard at all levels.

Only together can we make FAU the place where we all want to study. Let's get started!

Ann-Sophie Scholl (she/her) - Student Senator

Hey 😊 my name is Ann-Sophie, I'm studying human medicine and I'm in my third term in the Sprat. This year, I'm once again representing you in the Senate. I am also a delegate to the Bavarian State Student Council, a member of the ZGS and spokesperson for the FSV Med.

During this term of office, I would like to continue to work to ensure that no students feel excluded or discriminated against at the university and to do improve the network between the FSVs and students in Bavaria. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to write to me at any time. 😊

Your Ann-Sophie

New university group for Muslim students and interested parties

After a long break of several years, the time has come again. Since March 2024, there is once again an officially recognized Muslim university group in Erlangen, which is supported by the student representation (StuVe). We, as MHG Erlangen, see ourselves as a contact point for Muslim students and interested parties at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. Anyone looking for a family atmosphere and social contacts will find what they are looking for here. Cultural activities, science-oriented events and (inter-)religious dialogues characterize the MHG Erlangen. Take a look at our social networks, we look forward to seeing you!
