Who we are?
BEST Erlangen e.V, the local chapter of the Board of European Students of Technology, epitomizes student-driven excellence. Established in 2012 by FAU students, BEST Erlangen connects local students with the extensive European network of BEST by organizing engineering competitions, BEST courses, and many more social events.
About Siemens x BEST Engineering Competition.
This is a 3-day in-person competition scheduled on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of March. The task of the competition is decided on in collaboration with Siemens AG. It will be based on Solid Edge, a powerful computer-aided design (CAD) software suite developed by Siemens Digital Industries, widely used in engineering and manufacturing. Solid Edge facilitates 3D modeling, simulation, and drafting for product design and development.
Registration details.
To complete the registration process, along with filling up the Google form, the participants will have to complete an online tutorial to make themselves familiar with Solid Edge. If you are interested, you can also take part in an in-person tutorial session before the competition with experts from Siemens. Check out the Google form for more details.

Against Procrastination: “Long Night of Writing” in the Main Library

Because it’s easier to write together: The next “Long Night of Writing” on March 7, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. in the Main Library in Erlangen will offer helpful tips on topics related to writing. In addition to different workshops, there will be individual consultations – also for international students. Some courses only take place online. Finally, relaxation is ensured with yoga and non-alcoholic cocktails. Participation is free without prior registration.

The 35th [ki’ta:so] short film festival is coming up!

On Monday, 29.01.24, at 20:15 at the Lamm-Lichtspiele-Erlangen the [ki’ta:so] short film festival is taking place again!
In the 35th edition a numerous exciting, varied and creative works await you!
We have put together a colorful mix of short films from smaller filmmakers from Erlangen and beyond.
At the film festival you will also have the opportunity to ask the filmmakers your questions during the live interviews.
Finally, the audience will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites and choose the three best short films!

Call for entries „Stockmeyer NACHWUCHSPREIS 2024“

One of the aims of the Heinrich Stockmeyer Foundation is to promote young scientists who practicable solutions and application-oriented research in areas relevant to the food industry areas and thus contribute to improve food safety and strengthen consumer and strengthen consumer confidence in the quality of food.
The prize is endowed with 2,500 euros.
The prize is intended to honor young scientists whose work is characterized in particular by their high practical relevance. The possible implementation of measures in the production of safe and high-quality food is the main focus.
Prizes are awarded in particular to Bachelor’s and Master’s theses as well as comparable scientific theses or corresponding publications that demonstrate the aforementioned high application and practical relevance and are not older than two years. Doctoral and post-doctoral theses as well as theses that have already won awards will not be considered. Both individuals and working groups active in research in Germany or abroad can be nominated. The prize is aimed at people up to the age of 30.
Scientists and members of scientific institutions are eligible to nominate candidates, specialist societies, authorities and scientific editorial offices. Self-applications are excluded. The complete application documents (1. cover letter with nomination proposal, 2. curriculum vitae of the applicant, 3. abstract of the applicant, 3. abstract of the thesis – maximum two pages, 4. research paper) must be submitted by until March 15, 2024 as one coherent (password-protected PDF file) by e-mail to riewenherm@stiftungsberatung.de. If you are interested, you can obtain the password from Ms. Margret Riewenherm. By submitting your entry, you agree to the use of your personal data and images for the purposes and tasks of the foundation. The Foundation’s Board of Trustees will decide whether to award the prize. The award is made under exclusion of legal recourse.
