Committees on University Level

At the FAU, the management doesn’t make decisions entirely on it own. We, the students, and our professors as well as other academic staff have the possibility to take part in crafting decisions on every
level of our university structure (study progamme, department, faculty, whole university). In some
committees, our power of co-decision is stronger, in others less so.
Here you find a list of committees that must be staffed at each new term of office. Every student at FAU
can become a member in these committees!

Central committee for the use of tuition fees

In this committee we distribute about 5 Million € to all faculties and institutions of the university which in
turn should use them for measures designed to ameliorate the conditions of studying. Examples for such
measures are longer opening hours of libraries, language courses, student projects and many more. One
meeting a year, needs an investment of about 10 hours in total, strong power of co-decision: we match the
weight of the rest of the committee members in a 50:50 ratio.
We are looking for: 7 members with voting power and 7 substitute members

Commission for ethics of security relevant research

This commission deals with the situation in which research results can be used for civil as well as military
purposes. It shall serve as an advisory instrument for researchers at the university.
We are looking for: 1 member with voting power and 1 substitute membership

Principal board for the education of teachers

This commission is entitled with caring about all matters relevant for students studying to become a
teacher (Lehramt= teaching degree for secondary schools). They organize the education of the future
teachers. All student members of this committee must take part in the study course for the teaching degree
for secondary schools in Germany and should be in study programmes for different secondary school
tracks. They meet twice a semester.
We are looking for: 2 members with voting power and 1 advising member and 1 substitute membership

Commission for research and young academics

This commission serves to assist academics and decides on their promotions. They meet once a semester.
We are looking for: 1 member with voting power and 1 substitute membership
Commission for the Examination of Study Programmes
Here, we check the content and the formal prerequisites study programs and decide if they will receive
the stamp of accreditation.
We are looking for: 2 members with voting power

Commission for internationalization

This commission deals with all matters concerning the internationalization of the FAU. They meet once a
semester
We are looking for 1 member with voting power and 1 substitute member

Library Commission

This commission handles all topics concerning the university library and its development. It includes a
report of the library’s finances. They meet once a semester.
We are looking for: 1 member with voting power and one substitute membership

Members in the General Meeting of ZiWiS

ZiWis (Zentralinstitut für Wissenschaftsreflexion und Schlüsselqualifikation: Central Institute for
Scientific Consideration and Key Qualifications) deals with developing a range of courses in the field of
key qualifications and the institute’s development.
We are looking for: 1 member with voting power and one substitute member

Product Committee

This committee designs student merchandise together with the Student Services
(https://www.werkswelt.de/index.php?id=ueber-uns)
We are looking for: several students that can attend the meetings regularly (once a semester)
